First Corinthians chapter 1: 4-8. "I
thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by
Jesus Christ; That in every thing you are enriched by him, in all utterance,
and in all knowledge; Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you: So
that you come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus
Christ: Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that you may be blameless in
the day of our Lord Jesus Christ."
As I read this last night I realized
that as you read through 1st and 2nd Corinthians you're talking about two letters
to one church. And this church was, it had its problems. But, you know, there's
something about it; even amongst all of that I realized that Paul starts here
in verse 4 in this little greeting, he says, "I thank my God always on
your behalf." In other words, even with that church being what it was, he
was going to thank God for that. And you know what I like about that is the
fact that Paul realized a harvest is a harvest even though you get a lot of weeds
along with it. Paul was witnessing the working of God in that church and he was
rejoicing in that, isn't that good?
"I thank my God
always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by Jesus
Christ." I notice several things that I see in this one verse here that's a blessing
to all of us. Paul has the ability to love people where they are and where
they're at in their Christian life. You know, that's a very, very important
thing. You can't minister to people you don't love. You can criticize them
though. You can chew them up and chew them out and spit them out but I
guarantee you, you can't minister to somebody you don't love.
I see Paul thanking God for these people
just like they are. And you know you talk about a blessing, do you realize that
when we get to the point where we can look at others and say, " I might
not be what I ought to be, I might not be what I could be, I might not be what
I should be, but thank God I'm not what I was,"--and you know as we begin
to look at one another, you're human and I'm human, we're all human. And you
know what? If we want to, we don't have to look very hard to find something bad
about somebody. We can find something almost instantly that we can criticize in
somebody else's life.
I think one of the greatest things that you
and I can ever do is to thank God for the Christian. Thank God for other
churches. He is looking past their sin, the trouble, the problem, and he's
looking at the very heart of what is taking place there in them. That's the
grace of God working in them.
In verse 4 he said, "I thank my God
always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by Christ
Jesus."
"for the
grace of God which is given you by Christ Jesus." You see, he's talking about their salvation being
completed here by the grace of God which is given to you. You're saved by
grace through faith, that not of yourself; it is the gift of God.

| Hey friends. I am sitting here on this square, leather, new-age, trendy
chair currently surrounded by three pine trees and a furn. Yeh, pretty
wierd, I'm in the Detroit airport trying to get back home in time for
tomorrow's start of the tour. This trip has been pretty crazy....
I left on Monday and got into Syracuse, NY airport and made the journey
south to Ithaca college. I met with some people there and they
seemed pretty groovy, but the college over all seemed kind of small (my
HS football stadium is bigger then their college level stadium).
But they did have to really nice recording studios with really nice
equipment including Pro Tools HD, Power Mac G5 and many many
microphones that all have great reputations plus a HUGE console.
Pretty much insanely sweet. So then we got back into the car and
drove back to the airport and had to fly back to the ATL and then get
on another planed headed to Indiana. Indiana University is pretty
sweet. They have 7 studios all decked out with sweet equipment, a
really funny secretary that gave me some good advice and really nice
facilities. Plus if I go there for Recording Arts they don't
require me to keep playing an instrument in their program, even though
Daniel Parantonni is their tuba professor who also is one of the makers
of the mouthpiece I play on. Also there lead band director taught
our symphonic band camp and he was pretty cool. Over all i really
liked the campus and the size of the school. Then it was back to
the airport yet again. We boarded the plane and everything was
sweeeeeet, we taxied out and were about to take off, but alas the
second engine's starter was broken and the shaft they can use to
manually start it was broken so after about an hour and a half of
dozing the whole plane deboarded. This meant that there was no
way we could get on the next flight because it was overbooked and also
had all the people on our flight trying to get on. So we rented a
car and drove from Indiana all the way to Detroit. ROADTRIP took
my Dad and I about 5.6783 hours and was not too bad. Saw
University of Michigan and the campus is huge and spread out and crazy,
but they do have 4 seperate tracks just for Recording arts which is
really cool. Don't really know what to think about such a spread
out campus where you have to rely on a transit system. So then we
decide to try an catch the 1:05 flight back to ATL which would have
been sweet. So we drop off the rental car and leave for the terminal,
only to discover that the rental car company never checked the last guy
out on the car so they system still thought we were he. Wierd,
but that caused us to have to go back and get it all straightened out
which took a LONG time causing us to miss the flight, but no worries
there was one at 2:35, until it was cancelled for "mechanical reasons"
which I believe is code for "we are delta and we didn't have enough
passengers in order to make a big enough profit so we are going to mess
everyone up by overbooking the next one." It's okay though
because even if we don't get on the 4:20 flight then we still have a
few more chances. So thats about it... just waiting in this very
green? airport. I dunno why there are trendy couches in the
middle of an assortment of shrubbery, but hey whatever floats their
boat. There was also this really sweet tunnel that had flashing
lights set to music and it was nuts.... so much to do before school
starts on Wed and especially before tomorrow which starts everything
with Nashville, Chattanooga, La Grange, and Alabama. Anybody else
phsyced about the new crowder comming out September 27th? Anybody
else think i've rambled enough for this entry? I do.
